They all agreed, but they didn't feel so good about it. They felt rather disloyal, but what could they do? Lisa was calling the shots, and this was just too big a deal to pass up, even in the name of loyalty. Screech had heard enough. He turned around without ever making it into the backyard. He walked down the street and hopped onto the first bus that came by that led to the mall. It was only a five minute wait. When he arrived at the mall he made a phone call using a pay phone to Lisa.
"Lisa, I am sorry I could not make it to your barbeque, something came up. I have to help a friend out," Screech said pointedly.
Lisa answered, "Sorry to hear that Screech, well,see you in school tomorrow." As Lisa hung up the phone, she was struck by the strangeness of Screech's excuse for not coming over. What friend could he be helping out? All of his friends werealready overat her house forthe party. Maybe some chess "jock" needed some help or something. Lisa went out to the patio and told her friends that Screech would not be coming over for the barbeque. The whole gang was disappointed. Inspite of everything, they really did enjoy Screech's company and his absence was immediately felt, especially since they all felt a little guilty over their agreement to exclude him from their upcoming plans.
