This is a G rated Story
Lisa sighed with relief that Gary evidently hadn’t spotted her drudging around the floor as she had been earlier. His compliment left her feeling rather guilty about her resenting being a volunteer. Besides the fact that she would never have met Gary if she had not undertaken the volunteering job, she also would never have won his respect and admiration. He was right; she was doing something for others without looking for any personal benefit. Up until Gary pointed it out, she felt as if her volunteering was a punishment. Now she realized that it was really rewarding, although the work was usually unpleasant. It set her apart; it made her more than just your average, selfish, run of the mill person. It helped her to have depth of character. She admired Gary for recognizing it in her, and even more so, because he helped her to see things as she should.
Lisa felt a little overwhelmed, here she just met Gary, and she already felt that he was having a positive effect on her life. For the first time someone liked her not just because she was cute and fun-loving. She was sure Gary felt those things about her too, but she knew that he admired her also as a person. Lisa found herself thinking perhaps that’s the best thing to be liked for after all. That kind of attraction could stand the test of time. Lisa liked feeling more mature and understanding, and she was confident that her knowing Gary would help her grow as a person. He was not just charming and handsome, but he was the first person in her life who ever made her want to be more than she knew herself to be before. Lisa cherished her friends and knew that they were all loyal and devoted to her, but deep in her heart she sensed that a relationship with Gary offered her something new and uncommon and altogether wonderful.
