The bell rang and Mr. Kendal, prompt as usual, opened the classroom door for all the students to take their seats. Red-faced from his mad dash into class, Zack Morris, the tall, blond, handsome, scam artist of the school was just in time to narrowly escape the happy prospect of going down to the office to be privileged with yet another late note from the very accomodating school secretary. As the students filed in, Zack whisked Kelly around towards him so that he could plant an apologetic kiss on her cheek.
"Sorry I couldn't pick you up today Kel, I had to drive my dad to the airport."
"Don't sweat it, Zack, you must have forgotten that you already told me that you wouldn't be able to, so I grabbed a ride with Slater. It's fine," Kelly answered, obviously no worse for the change in plans.
"Speaking about Slater, where is he?" Zack wondered out loud. Zack was none too thrilled about facing a day in school without Albert Clifford Slater, better known as A.C. or just 'Slater'. He and the school jock always had a great time together.
"He said he had to talk over some football plays with the coach. I'm sure he'll be here soon," Kelly replied.
As she took her seat, Slater scooted into the classroom and plopped down in his chair with one sharp drop. Jessie chided, "See Zack, no need for concern. When you speak about pigs, before you know it you'll be able to see their tails." Jessie couldn't help, but to jump at the opportunity of teasing her muscular boyfriend. His heart of gold was always generous enough to grant her her cheap thrills of picking on him in her fun loving, if not insulting way.
Slater, quick to recognize that the insult was meant for him, insidiously retorted, "Oink, oink Mama! What did I do to offend your majesty this time?"
"Why come to think of it Slater, absolutely nothing. In fact you showed uncommon chivalry in rescuing Kelly this morning from that ill-fated 'my mother had to give me a lift to school!' I guess I am just used to thinking of you in the pig metaphor. You will excuse my lack of tact won't you?" Jessie feigned remorse in the most aggravating way.
"What choice do I have Jess? Thank goodness for you that I'm the forgiving type." said Slater as he charitably extended the undeserved olive branch which would quiet Jessie's tongue for a spell.
